President Trump Deploys ICE Officers to U.S. Airports Amid DHS Shutdown

The Senate’s lack of appropriations for DHS has resulted in TSA staffing shortages.

President Donald Trump informed Congress that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would be deployed to U.S. airports to support security, as the U.S. Senate has repeatedly failed to fund the Department of Homeland Security.

Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) employees have been working without pay, and may have either decided not to come to work or have found other employment and left the agency entirely. Waits in security lines at U.S. airports have stretched into hours as the partial shutdown has lasted more than a month.

Border Czar Tom Homan confirmed on Monday that ICE officers were deploying to perform security. Discussing what jobs ICE agents would do, Mr. Homan said, “There are certain parts of security that TSA is doing that we can move them from those jobs, and put them in the specialized jobs to help those lines.”

He said ICE would be “helping TSA move those lines along.” They will also engage in immigration enforcement.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump as he addresses domestic issues as a result of lapsed congressional funding.
  • For Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons and Acting TSA Deputy Administrator Adam Stahl as they collaborate on security for commercial air travel.
  • For Secretary Mullin and Border Czar Homan as they facilitate ICE support to TSA workers to expedite airport security screening.
